The Sheriffs’ Association of Texas held is annual meeting in El Paso in 1986. While in El Paso, Sheriff R. L. McFarland of Hansford County requested that all sheriffs from the Texas Panhandle gather for a brief meeting. He proposed that the Panhandle sheriffs form a regional organization to benefit all the sheriffs. The sheriffs all agreed that such an idea would be of great service to every sheriff, and with a unanimous vote the Texas Panhandle Sheriffs’ Association was formed, with Sheriff McFarland as it’s first president.
The goal of Texas PPOA is to promote interagency networking.
To promote and enhance the professional development, networkng and exhange of ideas from all Law Enforcement personnel of the agencies within the High Plains Region of Texas.
